For the first time, Oeiras receives European Researchers’ Night, entirely dedicated to the science produced in the municipality, on 24 September.
Oeiras Marina is the chosen venue for European Researchers’ Night. The initiative, which forms part of the REGGAE (Researchers for European Green Growth and Education) project aims to bring together researchers and those interested in science in an effort to demystify scientists’ work and bring it closer to the general public.
In 2021, under the Open Science Oeiras project, the ITQB-NOVA and the Gulbenkian Science Institute joined Ciência Viva – the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture and the Institute of Research and Innovation in Health of the University of Porto (i3S) to hold the first European Researchers’ Night in Oeiras.
The initiative will take place at Oeiras Marina from 24 September and at 21 other locations spread across the entire country. The programme will offer games, debates, demonstrations, workshops and conversations, among other activities, for audiences of all ages.
Different scientific institutions from the municipality will participate in European Researchers’ Night, and will have an opportunity to present the research they are involved in. The activities may cover areas as diverse as the circular economy, biological diversity, climate or clean energy, among others, related to the European Green Deal.
European Researchers’ Night is an initiative promoted and financed by the European Commission, under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. It takes place annually on the last Friday in September and has as its main objective demystifying research and scientists’ work.
Further details on the event and its programme will be made available shortly.
